I mean come on. #1 Wikipedia refuses to even admit that the tax honesty movement is an argument at all. Tax protesters don't believe in taxes at all. Tax honesty wants the government to be honest about taxes. Totally different arguments and Wikipedia's stance on it is very suspicious.

The 16th Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1913, clearly states that "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
Before the adoption of the 16th Amendment, the constitutionality of an income tax was determined under Article I, Section 9, Clause 4 of the Constitution, which states that "No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken." Exactly what the framers of the Constitution meant by "Capitation, or other direct, Tax" is a little unclear. The concern seems to have been about a form of "capitation" (or "per person") tax imposed in England before the Revolution under which taxes were imposed on each citizen based on the value of the land owned by the citizen. The wealthy southern states of the new United States, with large plantations owned by relatively few people, may have been concerned about the imposition of a tax on the value of land and so sought an assurance that all "capitation" taxes would be allocated among the states in proportionate to their populations, not their wealth.
The U.S. Supreme Court adopted this narrow view of "Capitation, or other direct, Tax," when it decided the case of Hylton v. United States, 3 U.S. 171 (1796). Four separate opinions were written by the justices who heard the case (separate opinions were the common practice of that day), and all four justices agreed that "direct tax" was limited to a tax on the value of land (and slaves, who were considered to be part of the land).
In Pacific Ins. Co. v. Soule, 74 U.S. 433 (1868), the issue raised before the Supreme Court was whether a tax on premiums collected by insurance companies was a "direct tax" within the meaning of the Constitution. After reviewing and quoting from the Hylton decision, the court unanimously concluded that "If a tax upon carriages, kept for his own use by the owner, is not a direct tax, we can see no ground upon which a tax upon the business of an insurance company can be held to belong to that class of revenue charges." 74 U.S. at 446.
The question of whether an individual income tax was a "direct tax" within the meaning of the Constitution did not arise until the Union enacted an income tax during the Civil War. The Supreme Court followed the opinions from the Hylton decision and ruled unanimously that an income tax was an "excise," and not a "direct tax," and did not need to be apportioned among the states. Springer v. United States, 102 U.S. 586 (1880).
Hylton and Springer were limited (or "distinguished") in 1894, when the Supreme Court decided to re-examine the question of whether an income tax was a "direct tax." In the first Pollock decision, a narrow majority of the court (5 of the 9 justices) began with the premise that a tax on the income from property is the same as a tax on the value of the property itself, a premise completely inconsistent with every other Supreme Court decision before or since (and was repudiated by the Supreme Court in New York v. Graves, 300 U.S. 308 (1937)). The Court then concluded that a tax on rents received from real property was a "direct tax" and unconstitutional unless apportioned. Pollock v. Farmers' Loan and Trust Co., 157 U.S. 429 (1894). On rehearing, the same five justices decided that a tax on dividends, interest, and other income from personal property (property other than land) was also a "direct tax" and so unconstitutional unless apportioned. Pollock v. Farmers Bank and Trust Co., 158 U.S. 601 (1895)
The Pollock court was very clear that it was only a tax on the incomes from property that was a "direct tax," and other forms of income could be taxed without apportionment. This was confirmed by the court in Brushaber v. Union Pacific R.R. Co., 240 U.S. 1 (1916). (See below for a more detailed discussion of the taxation of the income from labor.)
After the Pollock decisions, and before the ratification of the 16th Amendment, the Supreme Court also held that a corporate income tax was constitutional if it was based on the income from the manufacture and sale of goods, even though real and personal property were used to manufacture the goods. Flint v. Stone Tracy Co., 220 U.S. 107 (1911)
Because of the Pollock decisions, Congress was limited in its ability to impose a tax on incomes, because it was necessary to determine the source of the income. Wages, salaries, and other earned incomes could be taxed, and income from manufacturing and other business activities could be taxed, but rents, interest, dividends, and other incomes from property could not be taxed without apportionment (a very awkward process). The 16th Amendment was therefore proposed by Congress, and ratified by the states, so that Congress could tax incomes "from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
In claiming that Congress cannot tax incomes, tax protesters ignore both the plain language of the 16th Amendment and the fact that Congress could tax wages and other income from employment even before the adoption of 16th Amendment, based on the unanimous ruling of the Supreme Court in Springer and both the majority and dissenting opinions in Pollock.
"As the cited cases, as well as many others, have made abundantly clear, the following arguments alluded to by the Lonsdales are completely lacking in legal merit and patently frivolous: ... (3) the income tax is a direct tax which is invalid absent apportionment, and Pollock v. Farmers' Loan & Trust Co., 157 U.S. 429, 15 S.Ct. 673, 39 L.Ed. 759, modified, 158 U.S. 601, 15 S.Ct. 912, 39 L.Ed. 1108 (1895), is authority for that and other arguments against the government's power to impose income taxes on individuals...." Lonsdale v. United States, 919 F.2d 1440, 1448 (10th Cir. 1990). As recently as 1991, the Supreme Court referred to arguments that the federal income tax was unconstitutional as "surely frivolous." Cheek v. United States, 498 U.S. 192 (1991).
I really question such news articles as "The biggest con: Democrats & Republicans work together to destroy America".

But the beauty of Aaron's film is that it is about a simple set of concepts:
a) a private bank/counterfeiter that has the power of the State behind it to rip us off
b) the IRS as a private police force for them, which works in conjunction with the FBI
c) that our government is essentially entirely 'owned' and captured to serve this debt machine
d) that the final phase of it is to capture complete control
e) by crashing the dollar, on purpose (what OTHER useful purpose the War on Iraq?), rather than having to round up people by force, the majority will be forced to SEEK HELP from their tormenters who caused these problems in the first place
f) they intend to catalogue us electronically, like cattle, and most likely resume practice of the interrupted project of eugenics (animal husbandry) on the human race, via the Human Genome Project, an offshoot of previous eugenics research used by Rockefeller and by Hitler.

Taxes are familiar. Cops are familiar. ID worries are mainstream.
Mixing this up with the swill of unproven and unfamiliar things, and faith-based imaginings not physically proveable, will only serve to drive ordinary people away, and is probably some intended form of misdirection.
I have never spoken to so many people, lately, who have a sense that something is terribly wrong in America. They can't seem to quite put their finger on it, but they know that there is something that is not right, hasn't been right for some time, and they are very unhappy, particularly this election cycle. You won't hear about any of this in the traditional media, except for the fact that the Democrats are besides themselves with glee over the prospect of trouncing the Republicans in the mid-term elections.
And, that's a major part of the problem in America. We see the issues as "red" vs. "blue," Republican vs. Democrat, Conservative vs. Liberal, when the real picture is SO much larger.
The Democrats are correct in believing that people are angry with the Republicans, but they miss the mark when they think it was because the Republicans haven't been "Centrist" enough, or have taken the country too far to the "right."
Actually, it's the opposite.
People voted for the Republicans, starting in 1994, because they thought that would start the process of undoing the damage of the last 40 years and restoring true Constitutional government in America. However, the Republicans have failed miserably and have let down those who put their trust in them.
P. J. O'Rourke, I think, put it best when he wrote "Politicians are foxes. But we insist on believing that some are guard dogs. We elect them to watch the hen house, and on the first [sic] Wednesday in November there's nothing left but feathers."
So, thankfully, along comes Aaron Russo with his new film "America: Freedom to Fascism," in which he puts front and center a whole plateful of issues that we had better get involved with, and take control of, if we want to save our country, our sovereignty, our freedom, our American culture, and our way of life.
I have yet to see the film (I'm waiting for my DVD to arrive), but the people who are posting about the income tax issue are missing the larger picture.
As recently as July of 2006, I didn't know about any of this stuff until a friend sent me the URL for Aaron's site and told me I HAD to view the (14-minute) video. That was the first time I heard of the REAL ID ACT, though I knew there were those in Congress who wanted to force a national ID upon the public. From Aaron's site, I also learned the term RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), which led me to spychips.com., and their excellent book. Some more research, and I learned about the TTC (Trans-Texas Corridor), the first leg of the NAFTA Superhighway that is slated to run through the U.S. and connect Mexico to Canada. Also, the U.N.'s "Agenda 21."
The list of issues goes on and on. It seems as if there is no end to what the "power elites" hope to foist upon us, if only they can keep us distracted with the "bread and circuses" of professional sports, reality TV, or just our day-to-day struggle to earn a living. It really doesn't matter, just so long as we continue to be uninformed and uninvolved.
That's the problem with the way our system of self-government was set up. It's a "participatory" form of government, and you have to "participate" to make it work. Because, if you don't, you can be sure that your opponents on the other side of the issues will be very hard at work to advance THEIR agenda.
The income tax issue is (if I can so blatantly understate the word) "merely" the means to get us to finance our own demise! This is the TRUE message of AFTF; that we need to WAKE UP, and stop the government bureaucracy from its ever-expanding momentum, restore the Constitution as the only legitimate basis for our government, and take back our country from those who are bent on destroying our sovereignty and freedom in the name of one-world government (globalism). WE THE PEOPLE are the government, not the people we elect to represent us, and the "tail" has been wagging the "dog" for much too long.
THAT is the message.
Unless we WAKE UP and start taking action, we're all going to be, at the least, forced to carry national identity documents while being bled dry by a "tax-and-spend" bureaucracy, and at worst (the nightmare scenario) we'll be under total and constant surveillance by a global "nanny-state" that will control every aspect of our lives from cradle to grave, all financed by our own labor.
You don't even need to take my word for it. Just look at what's been happening for even the past 20 years (it's been going on for much longer than that, as Russo's film points out) and "connect the dots." Do your own research. Learn about the UN's "Agenda 21. Research what one of our own U.S. Representatives has to say (Ron Paul, R-Texas), about the true purpose of all that is happening.
So, thank you, Aaron Russo. Even before I have received your film, you have opened my eyes to the extent of the deceit, treachery, and outright violation of everything the Founding Fathers held dear when they forged the greatest system of government the world has ever known.
Before anyone stops paying their income tax as a result of viewing this film. I would recommend they read the text of the 16th amendment. It reads:

Now, I don't know anything about Supreme Court rulings on this, but I don't find that ambiguous. Congress can collect income tax. Nor do I find it problematic that the IRS does not define 'income' in its tax code, or at least that is what one bumbling interviewer indicated. They may not define "congress," "power," or "collect" either; but I know what those words mean. If the IRS Tax Code uses words I don't know the meaning of, I can use the good old dictionary. The OED has income defined this way:
That which comes in as the periodical produce of one's work, business, lands, or investments (considered in reference to its amount, and commonly expressed in terms of money); annual or periodical receipts accruing to a person or corporation; revenue.
Put together, Congress has the power to collect a tax on the produce of my work. True, it contradicts the constitution. That's sort of what amendments do sometimes. It sucks and has been used to serve the ultra-rich like everything else washington enacts; but amendments are law. Sorry.
